Our Mission
The Bowie Food Pantry strengthens the community of Prince George’s County by reducing hunger and providing nutritious food and supportive resources to eligible residents. When resources permit, emergency financial assistance may also be available to help address temporary hardships. Guided by compassion, dignity, and respect, the Bowie Food Pantry helps individuals and families meet immediate needs and builds hope, resilience, and long-term stability.
Non-Profit Status
The Bowie Interfaith Pantry and Emergency Aid Fund, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Tax receipts are available for all donations.

Make A Real Change In Someone’s Life
As we enter the fall season and look ahead to the holidays, I am reminded of just how important our work at the Bowie Food Pantry is and how much of that work is made possible by people coming together. The need in our community continues to grow, and for many of our clients, the months ahead may bring uncertainty. During times like these, having a place where people can turn for food and support is more important than ever. What makes our pantry special is that no one person or group makes that happen. It truly takes all of us. Our volunteers give their time and energy, our donors generously provide food and financial support, our community partners help meet the needs we could not meet alone, and our supporters continue to spread the word about the work we do. Together, we create something bigger than a food pantry, we create a community that looks out for one another. From all of us at the Bowie Food Pantry, we wish you and your families a happy, healthy and peaceful holiday season.

How You Can Help
Donations
- Food items – GREATEST NEEDS: canned meats, condiments, low sugar cereal
- Fresh produce – fruits and vegetables
- Financial Contributions-may be designated for food or financial assistance; checks should be made out to the Bowie Interfaith Pantry or Bowie Food Pantry
- Personal Care Items – travel size items as well as regular size shampoo, lotion, soap, deodorant
Adopt-a-Shelf Program
Groups and individuals are encouraged to join our Adopt-a-Shelf Program. You would be responsible for helping to keep the shelf stocked throughout the year. This can be done by collection of the adopted food item or by providing financing for the purchase of item.

High School Internship Program
The Bowie Food Pantry is excited to launch an internship program for high school seniors who live in Prince George’s County and are passionate about serving their community while earning volunteer hours. Interested students must complete an application process and be committed to serving throughout the 12-week program. Click here for more information.
Bowie Food Pantry Garden
Location: Two garden sites totaling 2500 square feet are located on the grounds of the City of Bowie Kenhill Center adjacent to the Bowie Food Pantry at 2614 Kenhill Drive, Bowie, Maryland.
Missions and History
Mission: Provide clients of the Bowie Food Pantry with fresh produce to supplement standard canned and packaged provisions. Harvests are performed on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings before the pantry opens to clients at 9:00 AM.
History: The garden was established in 2014 and has provided a total of 17,700 units of produce worth an estimated $24,900 to the Food Pantry over the past three years.
Production Practices
Operations resemble more those of a small farm than of a garden. We follow strict crop rotations, adhere to commercial recommendations for sustainable crop production, maximize production by double cropping and intercropping, emphasize organic amendments and cover crops for soil improvement, do not use pesticides, and maintain pollinator plants where practical. Beds are rotated for production of cool-season spring and fall crops such as lettuce, kale, Swiss chard, broccoli, and onions. Larger areas are rotated for production of summer row crops such as tomatoes, peppers, squash, okra, green beans, and sweet potatoes.
Contributors
Each year, 15 to 20 local gardeners have volunteered their time to the Food Pantry to perform production, maintenance, and harvesting operations. The City of Bowie provides the site and access to City water. The Bowie Crofton Garden Club provides financial donations that partially cover expenses for seeds and materials. Boy Scout Troop 403 has aided in preparing and fencing the garden sites in selected years. Ocean Compost LLC donated a seafood compost amendment derived from waste from Ocean City restaurants.
